BackgroundRyder's birth father was a traveling apothecary, and many of Ryder's early days were spent crossing Faerghus to help aid the needy. However, both of Ryder's parents would die when he was a teenager. He was found by Lord Aldric Prothero, a noble whose territory sat in Western Faerghus. Lord Aldric's son had once fallen deathly ill due to a rare disease, and only survived thanks to the intervention of Ryder's father. Remembering the kindness of the father who had only accepted a small payment, Lord Prothero adopted Ryder as his own son. As he studied in the library of Fort Aldric, Ryder showed a keen intuition and a particular talent for military tactics. As such, it was decided he would attend Garreg Mach Monastery in order to best serve Faerghus.Ryder also came with his fair share of issues, however.   • Ryder is 18 pre-timeskip, 23 post-timeskip.

  • Ryder suffers from severe anxiety which causes him to obsess over his health. This lessens as he hits the timeskip.

  • Ryder has a nut allergy. In order to avoid accidentally eating nuts, he has taken to cooking his own food. Because of this, he has become quite the accomplished chef. This also means he would be quite the pain to use if he were an actual character, as he would likely not be an option for the Dining Hall until post-timeskip.

  • Ryder has a talent for singing, even though he's probably too shy to admit it.

  • Ryder has a natural talent for Reason magic, authority, and swords. He has a weakness with faith, armor, and axes. However, the faith weakness can become a budding talent.

  • Ryder learns Fire, Thunder, Bolganone, Meteor, and Ragnarok for Reason Magic. His faith spell list includes Heal, Nosferatu, Psychic, Rescue, and Warp.

  • Ryder sometimes has "smart dumbass" energy. He's very bright, but can be prone to say completely silly things.

  • Ryder has some admiration for Pan, the legendary strategist who fought alongside Loog. However, he laments the lack of information there is on Pan.

  • Ryder distrusts Dimitri at first. Prothero was involved in the Western rebellion. The rebellion was where Dimitri first showed his more violent nature. While Ryder was not a combatant at the time, as he was still attempting to become a apothecary at this time, he has heard rumors of what happened. This leads to him desiring to avoid Dimitri if possible.

  • Lord Aldric and Viscount Mateus don't get along. Though they are neighbors, their views always clash. Mateus more or less blackmailed the previous head of House Prothero into aiding in the Western Rebellion, and the death of the latter only served to sour the relationship between the two houses.

  • During the five year period of the timeskip, Sebastian kills Lord Prothero under the guise of an Imperial attack before allying himself with the Faerghus Dukedom. Ryder flees to the Leceister Alliance and waits in hiding there. Ryder at some point learns of his adoptive brother's schemes and becomes focused on stopping him.

  • On Crimson Flower, Sebastian still kills Lord Prothero. However, he stays loyal to the Kingdom. If not recruited, Ryder is forced to work under his brother.
